Smoke damage is a manifestation of a house fire. You need to know where and how the fire damage has impacted your home. This is the first step prior to the cleanup process. The discolored walls, charred items, and ash that accumulates on the floor are visible, but it is what these damaged items produce, namely smells/odors, which can be very harmful. The signs could be apparent immediately, but they could also take days to become visible.

It's Just Smoke… What's The Big Deal?

Smoke damage is very destructive and can damage your ceilings, walls, and floors as they can turn yellow and discolored in a few days. Your wooden items will have discoloration and any metal hardware will have corrosion. Marble, stone, and granite can become permanently discolored due to acidic residue. Smoke damage can also create a smokey odor on your fabric items. Even if you cannot see it, smoke produces small carbon particles in the air called soot. Fires also create toxic gases and odorless gases like Carbon Monoxide which is very toxic and detrimental to your health.

The Process

Distinctive kinds of flames require diverse cleaning methods. Ordinarily, high-oxygen flames will result in dry, dusty sediment, while moderate consuming, low-oxygen flames will result in oily, wet residue that effectively smears. The cleaning routine must consider these distinctions. In a typical case, we would introduce fresh air while working on recovering your property by identifying what is salvageable and removing any debris caused by the disaster. After removing the debris, we then move our attention to air quality.
