Side view of a boom ... Sue JohnsonSide view of a boom, a large double masted dhow (sailboat) built in Kuwait, in the Persian Gulf between Dubai Emirate and Bahrain Island. The boom flies three sails, the first from the bow, the second from the main mast, and the third from the rear mast. The ocean surrounding the boom is rippled by the wind, and above the sky is empty of clouds. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18 28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain
